Introduction to Whitewater Kayaking

Date:Saturday, September 13th
Deadline to Register:Wednesday, September 10th at 5pm
Location:San Marcos or New Braunfels, TX
Meet:SLC
Time:6:30am - 8:30pm
Prerequisites: Pre-Trip Clinics: September 10th or 11th at 6:00pm @ the Marina(you must attend one)
Pre-Trip Meeting: Yes, during Pre-Trip Clinic
Equipment Provided: All boats, pfd's and paddles. Lunch will also be provided.
Bring: Towel, extra clothes, snacks, water bottle and money for dinner on the way home.
Wear: Comfortable clothes that can get wet and bring a change of clothes.
Cost: $50 (cost includes: lunch, instruction, equipment, and transportation)
Min/Max: 6/10

Description: This trip is designed for the beginner and anyone who wants to spend the day on the water, learning about kayaking and having fun. Paddling will take place on the San Marcos River or Guadalupe River. The trip covers all instruction on the basics such as river reading, maneuvering, safety, kayak rescues, and surfing waves. Join us and learn a new skill, enjoy river camaraderie, and soak up the sun.

Fall Break: Rock Climbing at Wichita Wildlife Refuge

Date: Thursday, October 16th- Sunday, October 19th
Deadline to Register: Friday, October 10th
Location: The Beautiful Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge
Meet: SLC @ 4:00pm
Time: 4:00pm Thursday - 6:00pm Sunday
Prerequisites: None
Pre-Trip Meeting: YES- Monday, October 13th at 6:00pm at the Rock.
Included Items:
  • Transportation: Yes
  • Meals: Friday Breakfast-Sunday Lunch
  • Camping: All equipment provided
  • Rock Climbing: All technical climbing equipment included. Feel free to bring your personal harness and shoes if you have them.
Bring: Gear on the provided equipment list. Bring money for a road dinner on the way there & back.
Wear: Clothes that provide freedom of movement and bring extra layers.
Cost: $135 (cost includes: meals, instruction, equipment, and transportation)

Description: We are heading to the Wichita Mountains NWR for some fun rock climbing and camping. We even may chance an encounter with some interesting wildlife as well! This trip typically fills quickly, so don’t hesitate. Participate!!! It is open to any skill or experience level, from introductory climber to advanced mountaineer. The cost includes travel, all your food in the backcountry, climbing gear, camping gear, witty comments, and good times.

Fall Break: Backpacking Eagle Rock Loop

Date: Thursday, October 16th- Sunday, October 19th

Location: Ouachita National Forest, Arkansas
Meet: SLC @ 4:00pm
Time: 4:00pm Thursday - 2:30pm Sunday
Prerequisites: Run the Bear Trail in under 25 minutes.
Pre-Trip Meeting: YES- Monday, October 13th at 6:00pm at the SLC.
Included Items:
  • Transportation: Yes
  • Meals: Friday Breakfast-Sunday Breakfast
  • Backpacking and Camping: All equipment provided. Personal items are not.
Bring: Gear on the provided equipment list. Bring money for a road dinner on the way there & back.

Description: If you have an adventurous spirit, enjoy challenge, love great scenery and want to make some amazing memories, this trip is for you. No experience is necessary but this trip is physical in nature. We will backpack 27 miles via the Eagle Rock Trail, the longest loop trail in Arkansas, located in the southwestern portion of the Ouachita National Forest. We will stay Thursday night at the trailhead and then backpack the loop spending two nights on camping along the trail. There will be numerous river, stream, and creek crossings and we will cross-over nine mountains. October is the best time of year for this hike due to the mild temperatures and Fall foliage and colors. We will provide the necessary equipment and expertise to introduce you to Lightweight Backpacking techniques that will allow you to see the entire loop while carrying less than 25 lbs. in your pack. We will return to Waco on Sunday as soon as we get off the trail.

Description: This is will be an exciting weekend of learning to Whitewater Kayak. We will teach you the basic skills that create the foundation for the rest of your paddling career. We emphasize safe practices using whitewater kayaking equipment and teach you how to use it comfortably. Get a taste for whitewater and beautiful scenery, on the San Marcos River. With the beautiful trees and the crystal clear river as a backdrop, learn about hydrology, river features, and how to maneuver your kayak through the current with eddy turns, ferries and peel-outs. The skills you learn here will help you to kayak through the rapid, avoid hazards and keep you safe. In addition, we add to your knowledge base more advanced and fun river running skills - SURFING the wave and rolling the kayak. At the end of the trip you will be well on your way to paddling class II- III rapids.

We will cover the American Canoe Association Level 2 and 3 Curriculum including learning to roll a kayak. Your fee includes all equipment needed for kayaking and camping, food while in camp, and transportation.

We will stay Thursday night at the trailhead and then backpack the loop spending two nights camping along the trail. October is the best time of year for this hike due to the mild temperatures and Fall foliage and colors. We will provide the necessary equipment and expertise to introduce you to Lightweight Backpacking techniques that will allow you to see the entire loop while carrying less than 25 lbs. in your pack. We will all meet at a designated time and carpool to the trailhead. The trip will conclude on Sunday.

    Reimer's Ranch: Rock Climbing

    Location: Reimer's Ranch Park, Austin, TX
    Meet: SLC @ 6:30am
    Time: 6:30am - 2:30pm
    Prerequisites: None
    Pre-Trip Meeting: Yes, Friday November 15th at 5pm to get sized for Shoes & Harness
    Equipment Provided: All technical climbing gear, lunch and transportation
    Bring: You, two water bottles, closed toed tennis shoes for hiking, and spending money for dinner.
    Wear: Comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement
    Cost: $50
    Min/Max: 6/14

    Description: Outdoor Adventure is headed down to the beautiful Texas Hill Country outside of Austin, TX. We will spend the day climbing Limestone at Reimer's Ranch Park. This trip is open to any skill or experience level, from introductory climber to Spiderman. The cost includes all climbing gear & equipment, entrance into park, professional instruction, and good times climbing with friends!
