DescriptionMountain View, California is home to the Silicon Valley Space Center (SVSC), a business accelerator focused on connecting entrepreneurs and venture capital investors with the rapidly expanding NewSpace community. This presentation will review the progress of several key startups associated with the SVSC, and highlight successful NewSpace bay area events hosted by the Center. BIO: Dr. Sean Casey is co-founder and managing director of the Silicon Valley Space Center and is a member of the Suborbital Applications Researchers Group of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation. Dr. Casey has over two decades of experience as an airborne astronomer whose work has been recognized as an example of NASA's goal for "more efficient and cost effective methodologies to instrument design and construction™ . Dr. Casey has served as a senior scientist with the NASA/German Space Agency SOFIA program, as management and technical lead for SOFIA's science instrument development program, as lead scientist for science instrument integration and commissioning, and as science liaison for the review of system-level requirements for SOFIA's final operating capability. He holds a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Chicago, dual MBAs from the Berkeley Haas and Columbia schools of business and has authored or co-authored dozens of science publications.
