DescriptionThe 2014 Pruit Symposium, "Marching to Zion: Celebrating and Preserving Black Sacred Music" is a three-day series of lectures, panels and performances. This year's Symposium will feature a keynote by author/musician/academic/activist Bernice Johnson Reagon, one of the heroes of the civil rights movement; Dr. James Abbington, one of the nation's leading composers and conductors of African American sacred choral music; Dr. Dwandalyn Reece from the National Museum of African American History and Culture; and several other well-known experts in the field of black sacred music and preservation.
