Pia Orrenius joined the Baylor faculty in 2008. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles and bachelor degrees in Economics and Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. She teaches managerial economics in the Dallas EMBA program. Dr. Orrenius is also Vice President and Senior Economist in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. As a manager in the regional group, she heads up the Texas Manufacturing Outlook Survey and is executive editor of Southwest Economy.
Dr. Orrenius' research focuses on the labor market impacts of immigration, illegal immigration, and U.S. immigration policy, and her work has been published in the American Economic Review, Journal of Development Economics, Economic Theory, Labour Economics, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, among others. Dr. Orrenius is a Research Fellow at The Tower Center for Political Studies at Southern Methodist University and at the Institute for the Study of Labor in Bonn. She was senior economist on the Council of Economic Advisers in the Executive Office of the President, Washington D.C. in 2004-2005.
