Frequently Asked Questions

Admission

1. Why do I need to apply to the business school?
From a practical perspective, only business students who have been admitted to the business school can take courses in their majors and 4000-level business courses. The question then becomes, why have this hurdle? Our goal for having an admissions process is to enhance the classroom experience of each student as well as help students achieve their academic goals in a timely and reasonable manner. When students take courses in the correct sequence and achieve the academic standards determined by the school, everyone benefits. Unfortunately, sometimes students haven't taken courses in the correct order, have saved the "hard" classes for later, or just didn't demonstrate the aptitude it takes to be successful in a business curriculum. Successful students, then, find themselves in groups or classroom settings in which some students were not academically prepared, thus diminishing their educational experiences

2. When do I apply to the business school?
All students who have completed 60 semester hours must apply to the business school to continue taking business courses.

3. How do I apply to the business school?
Make an appointment with an academic advisor in the Undergraduate Programs Office, Hankamer 106, who will have you complete an application and will process your application during the appointment, and then advise you for courses in your major.

4. What are the requirements for admission to the business school?
Course requirements: Math and English: Credit for ENG 1302 and 1304; Credit for MTH 1309 or MTH 1321 Lower Business Core (must earn a grade of C or better in each): BUS 1301, MIS 1305, ACC 2303 and 2304, ECO 2306 and 2307, QBA 2302 and 2305 GPA requirement: minimum 2.5 cumulative Baylor GPA

5. What happens if I haven't met the requirements by the time I have completed 60 semester hours?
Your admission will be deferred or denied. If you are not admitted because you have not completed the course requirements, your admission will be deferred and you will be required to take the courses in the subsequent semester. Failure to do so will delay starting your major courses and taking senior-level courses. If you are not admitted because you have not achieved the minimum GPA, your admission may be deferred for one semester during which you will need to retake courses to bring your GPA up to the appropriate level. If, after one semester of deferred admission, you have not met the requirements, your admission to the business school will be denied and you will have to change degree programs.

6. What other options do I have if I am not admitted to the business school?
You can change to any other degree program offered by the university. Be sure to talk to an advisor in that degree program so you can start making progress toward your new degree.
