Pi Sigma Epsilon National Headquarters Names Baylor's Delta Kappa "Best New Chapter"

March 31, 2008

WACO, TEXAS

At the Pi Sigma Epsilon National Convention in Dallas, Texas, Baylor's Delta Kappa was recognized at the "Best New Chapter." Although only in their second year of existence, Delta Kappa served as host of the event, with 13 students and advisor, Laura Indergard, working the many events.

"We were surprised and honored by the award. It reinforces that we are headed in the right direction and that the members of Delta Kappa are making recognizable progress," said President Tara Johnston. "It felt great to have Pi Sigma Epsilon's national headquarters acknowledge our achievements."

Junior Alejandra Baptista, Director of Fundraising, was honored as Delta Kappa's most valuable member. "With all the work the Delta Kappa members have done, I was humbled by this award," Baptista said. "We have really worked together to create the foundation of our chapter and are excited to see how Delta Kappa is growing."

The National Convention included 50 chapters of the fraternity with members from Hawaii to New York. "It was great to sit down with other chapters and learn about how the fraternity functions at their schools," said junior Evan Westover, VP of Administration. "Since we are only in our second year, it was beneficial to hear about their experience. I was also able to talk to the National Education Foundation board and get advice about the best steps for moving forward."

Westover, senior Jeff Motheral, and senior Richard Matney participated in the convention's Pro-Am sales competition. "I enjoyed being placed in a real life environment where I could use the skills I learned in class," said Matney, who advanced to the semi-finals. "It was an excellent opportunity to develop my abilities and get feedback on where I can improve. It was also useful to hear what professionals had to say about my performance."

Delta Kappa has recently initiated 22 new members to reach a membership of 52. "Pi Sigma Epsilon is not just for marketing majors," noted Johnston. "We are open to any student of any major, even freshmen and sophomores who are pre-major, who are looking for the opportunity to serve our community while gaining practical business experience and interacting with potential employers. PSE is a unique group of students who are preparing themselves now for their professional life after college."

PSE's goal is to provide collegiate students with practical business experience while still in school through sales, sales projects, marketing, marketing research and community service projects. PSE has been chartered on over 137 campuses nationwide, and currently has 50 active chapters from Hawaii to New York.
