McCormick Named Associate DeanMay 12, 2004
Dr. Terry Maness, dean of the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University, announced the appointment of Dr. Blaine McCormick as Associate Dean for undergraduate programs at the school today. McCormick will replace Dr. Elizabeth Davis, who has been appointed Vice Provost for Academic Relations at the University.
"Blaine is an excellent fit for this post," said Maness. "I am happy that he is bringing his unique gifts to this key position at the Business School and I'm looking forward to supporting him as he assumes these new responsibilities."
In his new role, McCormick will be responsible for overseeing approximately 3,000 undergraduate students as they progress through their education at the Business School. In addition, he will counsel students on matters of academic performance, as well as review and enforce admissions and graduation policies. McCormick will continue to teach a class in the Management & Entrepreneurship department.
"The Business School is one of the greatest assets at Baylor University," said McCormick. "We graduate students every semester that came to Baylor solely for the purpose of studying business. I believe that we can attract even more if we work to get the word out about the good things going in the business school. Business can be one of the greatest forces for good in America," he added. "I hope we can create a generation of graduates who view job creation and quality work as part of their life's calling."
McCormick is an award winning management professor and a leading scholar on the business history of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison. He has published three books, most recently Shepherd Leadership with co-author David Davenport (Jossey-Bass, 2003). His peer-reviewed research has appeared in such journals as the Business History Review and the Journal of Business Ethics. He currently serves as a Visiting Editor on Volume 6 of The Papers of Thomas A. Edison and is completing a new version of the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin for the University of Pennsylvania Press.
