Undergraduate Programs

A Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Degree with an Information Systems major is designed for students who are interested in both information technology (IT) and business and who desire a career path leading to progressively more responsible roles in IT management. In our field, those who are most successful must possess a solid grounding in both information technology and business to understand how to integrate information technology solutions and business processes to meet the information needs of businesses. Along with this blend of business and technology, the most talented and sought after IT professionals also possess excellent communication and team-based skills.

Our BBA in Information Systems provides students with a solid grounding in these three core skills that will help them achieve their goals of becoming highly paid, successful IT professionals and managers. First, our majors take 48 hours from the BBA core as outlined below in Table 2.. These classes form the basis of core business knowledge which is the first of the three key skill areas. Next, our majors take 18 hours of Information Systems classes designed to provide specific technical knowledge in such areas as programming, databases, networking, systems analysis and design, IT project management, and cyber security. These classes --- only taken by our majors --- form the basis of core technical knowledge that will enable our students to understand the relevant technical aspects of how information systems are designed, developed and deployed. Finally, our majors are able to develop their communication and teamwork skills through the required business writing class and through the numerous team projects designed to build collaboration and oral presentation skills.

Depending on majors’ particular interests, they have two 2 tracks from which to choose. Read more about each of these tracks below:

Management Information Systems (MIS)

The MIS track is considered to be the more traditional route leading to a well-paid, exciting, and successful career in information systems. Graduates who complete our MIS track may accept entry level positions as business process analysts and consultants, programmer/analysts, network/communications specialists, business intelligence applications specialist, or in database administration. Please click on the MIS track link (left margin on this page) for more specific details regarding course requirements and pre-requisites.

Accounting Information Systems (AIS)

The AIS track was launched in 2004 in response to the strong corporate demand for students with skills in both information technology and accounting. Due to its emphasis on accounting and information technology, this track is a more specialized one and may appeal to students who would enjoy working in jobs as IT risk management and security analysts or IT auditors. Please click on the AIS track link (left margin on this page) for more specific details regarding course requirements and pre-requisites.
