MBA Curriculum
Baylor's fully integrated MBA curriculum incorporates multidisciplinary theory and application throughout its core semesters fulfilling three objectives to:
DEFINE
DISCOVER
DELIVER
I. Core Courses:
A. Four disciplines within the core are delivered in five-week (1-hour credit) courses during each of the core semesters. You are exposed to the four disciplines - accounting, finance, statistics, and information systems every semester, learning how one discipline affects another and ultimately how they all impact the company. By dividing these four disciplines over three semesters, you experience a truly integrated curriculum.
B. Seven courses within the core are delivered in a semester-long format - operations management, microeconomics, communications management, organizational behavior, strategy, marketing, and Focus Firm . Communications management is taught during your first core semester and Focus Firm is taught in your second semester. The remaining five semester-long courses are flexible, so you have the option of taking them when they best fit your schedule.
II. Electives:
Specialize or generalize your field of study in Baylor's MBA program through your elective courses which are taken during each core semester.
Semester 1 - In addition to communication management and the four credit hours of five-week long core courses, you will be able to take up to nine hours out of the five flexible courses remaining. However, you have the option of taking only six hours of core courses and choosing one, three-hour elective to supplement your 15 hour schedule.
Semester 2 - In addition to the Focus Firm project and four credit hours of five-week long core courses, you will be able to take between between three and nine hours of core courses from the core three-hour options. Or, you can take only three core hours and choose up to six hours of elective courses to supplement your 16 hour schedule.
Semester 3 - In addition to the four credit hours of five-week long core courses, you will be able to take up to 12 hours of the five remaining flexible courses. However, if you have completed the required 15 hours of flexible core courses, you will be able to take up to 12 hours of electives to supplement your 16 hours schedule.
Summer Semester:
During the summer semester you can pursue an internship or a study abroad experience for six hours of credit. In 1992, The McBride Center for International Business was established within the Hankamer School of Business for the purpose of providing general coordination and support of all our international opportunities. The McBride Center coordinates study abroad programs and seeks out international internship opportunities for Baylor graduate students. A wide range of study abroad programs are available through bilateral relationships with international universities offering graduate business candidates the exciting opportunity to experience an academic culture of another country.
Additional Requirement:
Students who are new to business education start Baylor's MBA program by taking the Integrated Management Seminar (IMS). Students without a business undergraduate degree do not have to fulfill any prerequisites prior to entering the MBA program - IMS provides coursework to prepare you for graduate-level business courses. Students take IMS in either the summer or fall semester before entering the first core semester. IMS extends your MBA program one semester, making your program 21 months instead of 16 months.
