Business Major in Music & Entertainment Marketing

Are you interested in a business career in marketing music, movies, theatre or other forms of entertainment?

The only place you can find this degree program is Baylor University.

Unique Advantage. Compared to other arts, music & entertainment programs, we focus directly on the revenue production elements best suited to get students jobs in the industry. We offer the only major in the country in the marketing of entertainment. Our students ASPIRE to have impact and influence on our culture:

  • Selective: Only 20 outstanding students are admitted each year (average GPA > 3.50).
  • Practical: Each of the six entertainment marketing classes include a client project (music, film, or theatre).
  • Interactive: Client campaigns integrate interactive digital/social networking engagement strategies.
  • Revenue focus: Ours is the only academic program in the country expressly focused on the revenue-producing function of selling & marketing entertainment.
  • Experiential: Majors manage their own music and entertainment production company (www.uproarrecords.com), recruiting talent from a Baylor star search and managing artist careers. All students must complete an external entertainment marketing internship.

To get a job in the industry requires experience. Students in our program gain at least two years of experience designing, producing, and promoting EPs, videos, concerts, merchandise, and digital media strategies of our Uproar artists. Working with the university's Student Activities program, our Uproar Entertainment group manage and promote the Uproar Concert Series featuring leading touring acts performing on campus. In collaboration with clients such as MPower Pictures, and Walden Media, and Provident/Sony Films, students create feature film release marketing campaigns.

Connections. Entry into the world of entertainment is competitive. As a Baylor graduate, you will be prepared for success. Our advisory board members, alumni, and friends will help you get your foot in the door. The primary way to take that first important step is through internships. Track Record. Since initiating this innovative program in 2007, students have been placed in marketing positions at Word Entertainment, EMI Christian Music Group, Centricity Records, Columbia Records, Tri-Star Entertainment, Different Drummer, Disney Live!, Dallas Summer Musicals, Boston New Reperatory Theatre, and Houston Theatre Under the Stars, among others.

Coolest classroom in America. Thanks to the generosity of the Mike Curb Family Foundation and AT&T, students in the Music & Entertainment Marketing program have all of their courses in the Curb Music & Entertainment Learning Lab. This state-of-the-art hi-tech classroom includes decor & design honoring Waco as the birthplace of Word Records and Contemporary Christian Music (CCM). The business history of CCM may be viewed in the classroom, as well as memorabilia from the industry. Faculty and students celebrated the 60th Anniversary of Word Records with executives from Word, Curb Records, and Warner Brothers on campus in 2011.
