The only place you can find this degree program is Baylor University.

Students selected for this track will have the opportunity to work internships with major music, film, and theatre companies and to subsequently have a career in entertainment. Similar to the Sports Sponsorship & Sales major, internships will be provided through the M&E Marketing Advisory Board and partners. Members include Walden Media (www.walden.com), Dallas Summer Musicals (www.dallassummermusicals.org), Mike Curb Records (www.curb.com), Word Records (www.wordrecords.com), EMI CMG (www.emicmg.com), Provident-Integrity (www.providentmusic.com) and Disney Live! (http://disney.go.com/disneylive/).

Thanks to the generosity of the Mike Curb Family Foundation and AT&T, students in the M&E program have all of their M&E Marketing classes in the Curb Music & Entertainment Learning Lab classroom. This state-of-the-art classroom includes decor & design that honors Waco as the origin of Word Records and contemporary Christian music. This showcase room is located on the first floor of the Cashion Building.

Courses. In the theatre labs, you work in theatre production (theatre crew) so that you see what goes on behind the scenes in productions. You will also get practical experience in audience development for theatre productions. Senior year labs involve marketing Uproar Records (see www.uproarrecords.com and www.baylor.edu/bran), where M&E students run our own record label and distribution company.

In each of the marketing classes (3310, 3320), you will work exclusively on music & entertainment projects. In MKT 3310, we help market The Hippodrome Theatre in Waco. In MKT 3320, we design a promotion campaign for a Walden Media movie release scheduled for the upcoming fall.   In MKT 4335, we conduct a market research project for a music or film release.

To give event and venue marketing experience and to gain intensive interaction with music executives, students in MKT 3395--Baylor in Nashville--plan Uproar Network events on campus and an Uproar Showcase in Nashville. The class travels to Nashville in May (after classes are over). We meet with Uproar board members and industry partners, who also join us at the showcase featuring Uproar artists.

Since the best way to get a job in this industry is to already have a job in this industry, the most important thing you do in the Music & Entertainment track is to intern (MKT 4395) in marketing for a Music, Film, or Theatre company. Some of our partners are listed on the Internships page.

Unique Advantage. Compared to other arts, music & entertainment programs, we focus directly on the revenue production elements that are best suited to get you a job in marketing/sales in the M&E industry. Each class focuses specifically on M&E applications. Students in this track take the M&E courses lock-step with the same cohort of students....in classes restricted to those in the track. You are with other highly motivated students with whom you develop a strong network. Teamwork is way easier when you know that everyone on the team is as motivated as you are. Since both theatre and marketing majors are in this track, you gain unique exposure to highly creative minds from both fields.
