Baylor University Selected Best in Entrepreneurship by Fortune Small Business
"Baylor was a pioneer among universities when it established an Entrepreneurship program in 1977 and continues to lead the way today," said Dr. Terry S. Maness, dean of the School.
The Fortune Small Business selections are not in ranked order. The magazine explains that its "listings (in alphabetical order) are the result of seven months of interviews with hundreds of entrepreneurs, professors, students, alumni, university administrators, and venture capitalists. We asked each of our sources to tell us which programs they considered to be the most innovative and effective, and why."
Baylor is well known for its annual Texas Family Business of the Year awards, given by the Business School's Institute for Family Business which was established in 1988. The Institute helps family businesses survive to the second and third generations and beyond.
"Those of us at the Business School know we have a fantastic program for students and the family business community. Our alumni know it, too," said Kendall Artz, director of the Entrepreneurship program. "It's always gratifying to see that quality being recognized by others."
More than 100 undergraduate students are currently majoring in Entrepreneurship at Baylor. The program offers a unique learning opportunity to students who aspire to start, or secure employment in, a business having high growth potential. The major assists students in identifying viable career options in entrepreneurship, expanding their basic knowledge of the entrepreneurial process, and developing a repertoire of venture management skills. A major emphasis of the program involves contact with successfully practicing entrepreneurs and on-site business consulting.
