The Financial Markets Center serves as the classroom for the Practicum in Portfolio Management course for the student-managed Philip M. Dorr Alumni and Friends Endowed Investment Fund, currently valued at approximately $7 million.
The Center also offers special information resources that provide access to the latest tools and data used by finance practitioners around the world including The Bloomberg Professional Service, Thomson ONE Analytics, FactSet, Morningstar Research Reports, and CFA Institute Webcasts.
The facility is designed to create a boardroom atmosphere with the functionality of a classroom, a videoconferencing suite and a financial research center.
The room features a custom-designed, horseshoe-shaped conference table seating 20 people. Each seat is equipped with a wired microphone, as well as a Dell Latitude notebook computer, wired and wireless network access and power outlets. The room also features two 61-inch NEC plasma displays and two rear-projection screens.
Construction of the Financial Markets Center was made possible by a generous donation from Don and Ruth Buchholz. They provided all of the funds needed to build the Center and to begin a permanent endowment fund to finance the Center's ongoing annual expenses. Ruth Buchholz is an alumna of Baylor and Don Buchholz is the founder of Southwest Securities.
