  • 2012 Texas Family Business of the Year Announces Award Winners and Finalists

Baylor University's Institute for Family Business, through its annual Texas Family Business of the Year awards program, recognizes outstanding firms whose families demonstrate a deep commitment to each other and to business continuity, and who are exceptionally responsive to the needs of their employees, communities and industries.

TFBOY12-Thumbnail "Considering all the recent pressures which have fallen upon business owners - economic downturn, the new healthcare expense issues and enormous regulatory restraints, it is really difficult to operate profitable businesses these days," said J. David Allen, director of the Institute for Family Business and John F. Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship at Baylor's Hankamer School of Business. "When family issues are added to the mix, great skill and judgment are required to remain successful. We really value, respect and honor family businesses that can balance all the issues - business and family - and continue to operate successful businesses. They are truly remarkable."

  • Baylor Entrepreneurship in Costa Rica Wraps Up Another Year

Zipline thumbnail Entrepreneurship faculty and students recently returned from a two-week excursion in Costa Rica continuing Baylor Business School's ten-year tradition of hosting culture-rich study abroad programs in Latin America.

The study abroad program is headed up by Leslie Palich, Ph.D., associate director of the Baylor Entrepreneurship Program and David Allen, director of the John F. Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship and the Institute for Family Business. Each year they host 10 students on the trip.

"We are so pleased to be able to offer this study abroad opportunity to our students," said Palich. "And after working to perfect the program for more than a decade now, we are thrilled with the results. Our students uniformly report that what they get from their participation is intensely educational as well as being a whole lot of fun. We would not be satisfied with anything less."
