Classrooms & Equipment

1. How do I operate the video projectors in the classrooms?

If you are new to a room that has this equipment, a demonstration can be arranged to walk you through the procedures by calling ext. 3951. The main buttons are the on/off and the input select buttons. Input select allows you to choose the source to project - such as computer versus video.

2. Kensington remote doesn't work

  • Check the batteries - if new ones are needed, contact ext. 3951.
  • Check that it is the one for your particular classroom. Remotes do not work from room to room.

3. How do I reserve classrooms in HSB? The Blume Conference Center?

Reservations for classrooms and meeting rooms in HSB are made through Carolyn Boeche, ext. 6990.

To Reserve a Classroom, go to the Hankamer Reservation Forms page and choose Classroom Reservation Form.

4. How do I arrange for sound equipment and set-up?

All requests for sound equipment must be submitted through Carolyn Boeche, ext. 6990, at the time you make your room reservation. This must be done at least two business days in advance.

5. What equipment can I borrow?

You may reserve and check out:

  • from Jennifer Telfer: video projector, projector screen, speaker phone, digital camera, flip cam, tripod and a digital camcorder. Reservation Forms
  • from Casey Computer Center offices (2nd floor Hankamer): laptop computer, iPad, external hard drives, external DVD, other peripherals.

HSB Network

1. How do I get software installed in the Lab and classrooms?

A standard set of software is loaded in the lab. Additional software that requires loading by the network administrator should be coordinated with the Network Manager, Lonnie Olander, ext. 4250.

2. How do I get additional software for my office computer?

Additional software is available to Baylor faculty, staff, and students at http://www.baylor.edu/appcenter. For specialized software not available through the AppCenter, please contact the Casey Computer Center at ext. 3951.

3. How do I change my Bear_ID password?

Open a web browser and follow the instructions on the ITS page.

4. Is there free software for use at home?

There is some almost free software. Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office are available to faculty and staff through the Baylor Bookstore located on 5th street. There is a small fee to cover the cost of the media. Additional software is available for free to faculty, staff and students from Home Software.

5. I can't get logged in. What do I do?

Be sure that you have entered your Bear Id (for example, Lynne Davis logs in as Lynne_Davis) and password correctly (check that the Caps Lock key is off). If these are correct, reboot the computer and try again. If you still are unable to log in, please note the error message and call ext. 3951 for assistance.

6. How can I access campus resources from home?

Faculty, staff, and approved graduate students may connect through the ITS vpn setup by going to https://babel.baylor.edu.

Once connected you may access your I: drive and L: drive. The locations for each are:

Use your complete e-mail address and password when connecting to the filespaces listed above.

7. How do I back up my office computer?

ITS is now providing backup services for Baylor owned computers. No action is needed except to leave your computer on. If your computer is NOT being backed up at least once a week, report the problem to CCC, ext 3951.

8. How do I get AirBear or wireless access for campus visitors or guests?

Visitors to campus do not have access to AirBear. However, Casey Computer Center staff can set up temporary wireless accounts for guests to BU-EVENT, which allows access to the internet. To have accounts set up, please contact Josh Ward or Anthony Lapes. Please provide at least 48 hour notice whenever possible.

Lab Information

1. When is the lab open?

During the Fall and Spring semesters,
  • Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - Midnight
  • Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday; 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Sunday 2 p.m. - Midnight

Please see the Lab Hours web page for Summer, holidays, and finals hours. The lab Hours are also posted just outside the lab.

2. How do I get an account in the lab?

All business school students enrolled in at least one business school course (except students enrolled in BUS 1125, BUS 3302, BUS 3303, LDS 1101, LDS 3101) will have automatic access to the computer lab.

Students not automatically given an account can sign up for access to the lab by paying the $25 HSB Advanced Technology Lab Fee which also includes 300 additional print pages. To sign up for the fee fill out a form in the Lab.

3. Why Can't I login?

You must have an account in the HSB Advanced Technology Lab to login. All business school students enrolled in at least one business school course (except students enrolled in BUS 1125, BUS 3302, BUS 3303, LDS 1101, LDS 3101) will have automatic access to the computer lab.

4. What happens when I run out of print credit?

When you run out of print credit a bill will be sent to your university billing address for the amount of print charges you have incurred at the end of each semester. For more information go to PawPrints.baylor.edu.

5. How do I check my print balance?

You can check you print balance by clicking on this link: Balance. You will be required to enter your Bear_Id name and password.

6. Does my balance carry over to the next semester?

No. At the beginning of each semester the print balances are reset. Summer Session I and II count as one semester. For more information go to PawPrints.baylor.edu.

7. Can I use other computer labs on campus without paying an additional fee?

Yes. The Advanced Technology Lab provides software for students to complete projects required by classes in the Hankamer School of Business. This software may not be available in other labs on campus.

8. Can I reserve the Lab?

No. We do not reserve the lab because students pay to have the lab available to them. Exceptions must have prior approval of the Dean of the School of Business.

9. How do I access the P: drive outside the computer lab?
You may access your P:\Drive on any Baylor computer by going to Start, Run and typing in \\casey2\stu\Bear_Id. For example: Mr. Bobby Baylor with a email address of Bobby_Baylor@baylor.edu would type in \\casey2\stu\Bobby_Baylor.

Printing

1. I can't print.

  1. Check to see if you are connected to the network. The easiest way is to open Internet Explorer and see if a web page can be accessed. If you can't, you're probably not connected to the network.
  2. Check the printer to see if it is online and has no error messages.
  3. Reboot and try printing again.
  4. If all else fails, call ext. 3951 to report the problem.

2. I printed some pages on the color printer, but they aren't coming out. What happened?

If your job exceeds the memory limit of the printer, it may start and stop in the middle, or it may not print at all. The color printer is a little slower than the black & white printers. If the printer's green light is flashing and nothing is happening, then REBOOT the color printer. Your job must be resent in smaller packages.

3. How do I print from the Manual feed tray?

In MSWord Go to File, Page Setup. Select the Paper Tab and under Paper Source select Manual paper. You may also have to change the setting on the printer: Go to File,Print. The Print Dialog box will open. Select Options (bottom left). In the Default Tray box, choose Manual Feed. Hit OK, and OK. Go to the printer, when it beeps place your paper in the manual feed tray.
