Location, Location, Location...and Much, Much More
- Baylor University pledges this: the land, fundraising support, resources and know-how necessary to construct the nation's premier presidential library, one that will educate and inspire its visitors to cherish freedom and the unfolding promise of America.
- Baylor is the best location for the George W. Bush Presidential Library Center because of its proximity to the President's ranch in Crawford and its central location in Texas. A presidential library at Baylor would be easily accessible to the President, world leaders and guests visiting him in Crawford.
- Located in the heart of Central Texas, Baylor is within a 200-mile radius of 82 percent of the state's population (17 of 21 million people).
- Baylor offers the President the natural beauty of more than 100 acres at the intersection of the Brazos River and I-35, a corridor that accommodates more than 90,000 vehicles through Waco each day (32.8 million per year). Largely because of its proximity to I-35, the Johnson Library is the most visited presidential library in the nation.
- Baylor is less than 100 miles from the Bush Library in College Station and the Johnson Library in Austin. This close proximity will create the nation's first presidential research triangle, giving scholars and tourists unparalleled access to the museums and archives of three U.S. presidents.
- Placing the George W. Bush Presidential Library Center in Central Texas off I-35 will not interrupt local residents' commute to work as it would if located off an expressway in a major metropolitan area. Waco is a place where people will flock without creating gridlock.
