Dr. Alejandro Ramirez is the science mass spectrometry specialist at Baylor University. After receiving his B.S. degree from the Central University of Venezuela in chemistry, Alejandro came to Baylor in the spring of 2003 to begin work on an advanced degree in chemistry. While in graduate school Alejandro was primarily involved in the development and application of novel high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS; ESI and APCI) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS; primarily SIM with EI ionization) methods for assessment of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in complex environmental matrices, including biological tissues. Alejandro was assigned to several multidisciplinary projects involving collaborators in different academic departments at Baylor, as well as two private industries and a government agency (USEPA). Alejandro received his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry in the fall of 2007 and now works for the Director of the Sciences Facility as the Mass Spectrometry Specialist.
