Summer of Discovery: Get Ahead, At a Discounted Rate

July 1, 2022

Summer can be a time of leisure, but for many Bears, it's a time to get ahead on their studies. Summer of Discovery offers both current and incoming students the chance to do just that. Through Summer of Discovery, students can attend in-person and online courses to advance toward their academic goals. Courses offered are discounted from regular tuition, and students receive greater discounts as the number of classes taken increases.

"There are so many benefits for students when it comes to Summer of Discovery," Associate Director of Student Initiatives at the Center for Academic Success and Engagement Carroll Crowson said. "The discounted rate, the opportunity to get ahead on classes, the flexibility of all the online options, even if students are looking to add a minor or certificate to their degree—there are so many reasons students choose to be a part of Summer of Discovery and we're thankful to be able to offer the option."

Summer of Discovery not only benefits current and incoming students, but Accelerate students as well. This allows incoming Baylor students to get a jump start on classes this summer with a collection of discounted online courses. Additionally, high school juniors and seniors can take college-level courses at Baylor over the summer for college credit.

"I fully recommend every high school student take summer classes if you want to understand the pace of Baylor classes and what's expected of you," Liv Tantalo, a high school student and Summer of Discovery participant, said. "This program has really set me up for success, especially as I hope to attend Baylor as a college student in the future."

Baylor is always looking to make its offerings more accessible to students and Summer of Discovery is a key initiative to meet that goal.

"We really have so many more online options that are helpful for students who want to get some credits done in the summer, but need the flexibility of where they are when they take them," Crowson said. "We've got students all over the country taking advantage of these offerings."

Most in-person classes meet every day, while most online classes follow a set-your-own-pace model. Regardless of the class type, students can still expect top-tier academics, classes taught by Baylor faculty and an incredible student experience.

"My professor has been amazing and very helpful," Tantalo said. "I've really enjoyed my classes and everything I have learned—it's only convinced me more that Baylor is the place for me."

Students interested in participating in Summer of Discovery have the opportunity to do so during Summer 2 (July 11-Aug. 12). More information is available at baylor.edu/discovery.
