Coffee with a Mission

Baylor Blend

Baylor has partnered with Common Grounds to stock shelves with coffee that benefits a great cause. The Baylor Blend is sourced from the Café Aurora fair-wage farm in Guatemala. For every bag sold, $5 is donated to the Baylor Missions fund. The fund will benefit communities in Guatemala and across the globe. The first mission trip benefitting from this initiative is scheduled for the summer of 2021.

Waco native Blake Batson, B.A. ’08, and his wife, Kimberly, B.A. ’07, wanted to use the Baylor Blend to provide support and service to countries, businesses and farmers that ensure a living wage and thriving community.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with Baylor University using our collective platforms to make a positive impact in our world,” said Blake. “By supporting ethical companies, we have the opportunity to invest in communities globally by serving our community locally.”

The Batsons have invested in the Waco and Baylor community significantly through Common Grounds, Heritage Creamery, Native Sons Roasters, Slow Rise Slice House, Milo All Day and Fabled Bookstore & Café. The collaboration for the Baylor Blend is only continuing their longstanding partnership with the University.

Their vision of using their business opportunities to advance human flourishing in Waco and beyond has been recognized through the establishment of this mission fund. The Baylor Blend coffee bags are even designed to emphasize the local efforts supporting global mission. The tagline for the blend reads “Drink Coffee. Do Good. Repeat.”

“We are grateful for the generosity of Blake and Kimberly and their continued commitment to both Waco and Baylor. The new Baylor Blend and the mission fund it supports will establish a legacy of generosity and service to others,” said Matt Burchett, director of student activities and division philanthropic engagement at Baylor.
