A sneak peek at the Class of 2022

Every summer, we take a look at some of the freshmen who will be joining the Baylor Family come fall. Here’s your first look at some of the members of Baylor’s Class of 2022:
Two years ago, Carlie Toliver’s grandmother passed away following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Remembering her grandmother’s love of music, Carlie and a friend organized a benefit concert, “Music for Memory,” that raised $2,000 in its first year for Alzheimer’s research and support. Sharing her grandmother’s love for music, Carlie — a National Merit finalist from Ruston, LA. — will be a voice performance major at Baylor starting this fall.
After four years as Midland High School’s mascot, Colbie York is headed to Baylor to continue her spirit squad role — this time, performing as Marigold, Bruiser’s female friend that was introduced last fall. Colbie, an incoming neuroscience major, was so excited about the opportunity at Baylor that she actually skipped her high school prom for tryouts; her success guarantees that she’ll continue in the footsteps of her father, who she says performed as mascot for both his high school and college, too.
The list of past winners of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards includes Stephen King, Ken Burns, Sylvia Plath, Richard Linklater — and now, incoming Baylor freshman Kaitlyn Sheroke. The Houston-area native was honored for a short story she wrote titled “Sirenia.” The honor includes recognition at Carnegie Hall in early June (just a few days after Baylor music students performed at the famed concert venue).
Born with a rare and potentially deadly heart defect, Waco native Mason Bailey underwent open heart surgery when he was just 5 days old. Doctors worried what his future might look like, but it turns out those concerns were misplaced. Battling past three other heart surgeries, Mason graduated Midway High School with a 97 grade point average, and he plans to study engineering at Baylor this fall.
In April, Dallas-area twins Brooklyn and Bailey McKnight announced they were joining Baylor’s Class of 2022 — via a YouTube video that now has more than 2.2 million views. As high school students, Brooklyn and Bailey have built an incredible online community, with more than 5 million YouTube subscribers, 3 million Instagram followers, and hundreds of thousands more Facebook and Twitter followers. Starting this fall, the sisters will bring their followers along to Baylor (virtually) as they begin their studies in entrepreneurship.
