Staff Council Service Committee Projects Serve the Community

Underscoring the Staff Council is the tagline, “supporting the mission,” a reference to Baylor’s mission of educating men and women for worldwide leadership and service by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring community. One committee within the Staff Council specifically addresses the “Christian commitment within a caring community” aspect—the Service Committee.

“I believe that service is part of our calling; we are to serve others. I think it’s very important,” said Adrienne Conradt, Service Committee co-chair and office manager for the office of the executive vice president & provost. “It also brings everyone together. When you work together and serve together, it definitely makes your relationships stronger.”

Each semester, the Staff Council’s Service Committee selects an organization or cause to partner with in order to give Baylor staff the opportunity to support those in need in their community. This past September, the Service Committee partnered with Avance, a national non-profit organization that seeks to strengthen families in at-risk communities through parent education and support programs. Baylor staff members were asked to donate diapers, wipes and baby blankets at drop-off locations across campus to meet Avance’s pressing need for baby products.

“It went so well,” Conradt said. “Even the nursing school participated and gave their donations to the Dallas Avance. It was so nice to have two communities served through our efforts. We were thrilled.”

This spring, the Staff Council will partner with Pack of Hope for the fourth year in a row. Pack of Hope supplies participating school districts and their eligible students with backpacks of food with the goal to “erase child hunger in McLennan County.” Last year, Baylor collected nearly 1,500 pounds of food for the organization. Conradt and the other members of the Service Committee hope to beat that number this year.

“We are blessed with so much and to bless other people who are in need is what life is all about,” Conradt said.

Dates and drop-off locations for the spring service project will be announced soon by email. For those interested in becoming involved with the Staff Council, visit baylor.edu/staffcouncil.
