Board of Regents continues to welcome a diversity of perspectives

July 27, 2015
On June 1, Baylor’s Board of Regents welcomed several new faces who have joined returning and re-elected regents as participants in the University’s governance. The newly elected regents, who will serve three-year terms are:

William (Bill) S. Simon, of Rogers, Ark., former president and CEO of Walmart U.S.; and

Kim Wilson Stevens, BSEd ’93, of Waco, CEO of Blue Scout Media.

In addition, the Board elected three new individuals to serve one-year terms as non-voting regents who represent a variety of constituent groups in the Baylor family. Those regents are:

Jonathan Siktberg, a senior Baylor Business Fellow from Nashville, Tenn., who is serving as the student regent;

Lori E. Baker, BA ’93, MA ’94, PhD, chair of the Faculty Senate and associate professor of anthropology in Baylor’s College of Arts and Sciences, who is serving as the faculty regent; and

Debbie Bradley Mann, BSHE ’80, who will represent the Baylor “B” Association, composed of Baylor athletic letter winners.

“Baylor continues to be blessed by the remarkably talented and dedicated individuals who unselfishly commit their time, wisdom and resources to help Baylor University flourish in its mission of academic excellence with Christian commitment,” said Richard Willis, BBA ’81, MBA ’82, who was re-elected to serve another one-year term as chair of the Baylor Board of Regents. “Our newly elected regents bring additional experience and knowledge to the board, as well as a profound understanding of and commitment to the University’s mission and vision. We look forward to serving alongside them as Baylor continues to powerfully impact the world and the lives of our students.”

Six current regents were re-elected to three-year terms: Robert E. Beauchamp of Houston; J. Cary Gray, BA ’79, BACC ’80, JD ’83, of Houston; David H. Harper, BBA ’88, of Dallas; Dan Hord III, BBA ’89, of Midland; Christopher B. Howard of Hampden-Sydney, Va.; and Ronald D. Murff, BBA ’75 of Dallas.

Returning to serve another one-year term as a non-voting regent is Chris Manning, BBA ’84, of Dallas, representing the Baylor Bear Foundation, which serves as the primary fundraising organization for Baylor athletics.

Last fall, the Baptist General Convention of Texas re-elected to three-year terms Linda Brian, BA ’69, Joel T. Allison, BA ’70, and Judge Jennifer Walker Elrod, BA ’78, all of whom have been confirmed by the Baylor Board.

“We are deeply grateful for the thoughtful leadership our regents have provided,” said Baylor President and Chancellor Ken Starr. “Members of the Board of Regents serve selflessly as volunteers, and we are thankful for the tireless manner in which these dedicated servant leaders exercise their various gifts in service to Baylor University. Working alongside the administration, and with the Lord’s abundant grace, our regents are helping to ensure that Baylor University continues to move forward boldly under our Pro Futuris vision.”
