Bashoo Naziruddin, Ph.D.

Dr. Naziruddin
Dr. Bashoo Naziruddin is the Director of the Islet Cell Processing Laboratory at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University of Madras, India in 1987. He has conducted post-doctoral research at University of Oklahoma and Washington University of School of Medicine mainly in the field of transplant immunology. Dr. Naziruddin's current research is focused on immunobiology of human islet transplantation. Specific research topics include: Assessment of immune response in islet transplant recipients; development of optimal immunosuppressive regimen for islet transplantation; strategies to induce tolerance toward allogeneic islets; development of novel assays to measure islet potency and potential use of xenogeneic islets from pigs for transplantation in humans.
