Christopher J. Kearney, Ph.D.
Dr. Christopher Kearney is associate professor of biology at Baylor University. He serves as the Director of Graduate Studies. He received his Ph.D. in 1989 from Cornell University with a major in plant pathology and a minor in biochemistry, and his M.S. and B.S. in biological sciences from Cal Poly, Pomona, and the University of California at Irvine, respectively. He came to Baylor in 1994 following postdoctoral work at the University of California-Riverside and the University of Florida and was the 2000 recipient of the Collins Outstanding Professor
award. Dr. Kearney's work has focused on the molecular evolution of tobacco mosaic virus, but his recent interests have shifted to the expression of pharmaceutical proteins in plants using viral vectors. Dr. Kearney's lab utilizes whole plants,
plant cell cultures and human cell cultures with a focus on genetic engineering and protein analysis and purification techniques.
