Dr. William Hillis is The Cornelia Marschall Smith Distinguished Professor of Biology at Baylor University. He received his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University of Medicine in 1957 and served as assistant and associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins from 1972 until coming to Baylor in 1981. During his time at Baylor, Dr. Hillis has served as chairman of the biology department (1981-85), executive vice president (1985-89) and vice president for student affairs (1989-98). He is the author of numerous journal articles and the recipient of many medical research grants. His research interests include virology, immune response, epidemiology, cell cultivation, hypertension and immunosuppression, and his principal investigative interests relate to viral hepatitis.
