Research Interests
Martin's research interests focus on the origin of biodiversity.
He enjoys species rich systems and here at Baylor he studies
speciation of Lake Malawi rock-dwelling cichlids. He is mostly
interested in discovering which evolutionary forces lead to the
differentiation of populations and ultimately of new species. In
his research project he uses a variety of genetic andmorphometric
techniques to compare rates of genetic evolution to morphologic differentiation.

Martin is also interested in phylo- and biogeography. In a few of his side projects he is investigating the phylogenetic relationships of band winged grasshoppers on different geographical and taxonomic scales.
