POSITION: Assistant Professor (Disease Transmission), beginning August, 2010
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or
equivalent degree. Qualified persons should have a strong research
potential in the general area of disease transmission of microbial
pathogens (viral, bacterial or protozoan). The ideal candidate will use
molecular biology techniques or modeling in an epidemiological,
biomedical or ecological context to investigate vector-transmitted
disease or host-pathogen systems and their relationship to human
health. The successful candidate will have a developing record of
publishing and the potential or record for securing external funds.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will develop a
vibrant, independent and externally-funded research program with a
record of refereed publications in high quality journals. The applicant
will be expected to participate in mentoring graduate students. Baylor
offers the Ph.D. and Master’s in Biology as well as Ph.D. degrees
through the interdisciplinary Institute of Biomedical Studies (BMS) and
The Institute of Ecological, Earth and Environmental Sciences programs
(TIE3S). Teaching is expected at both the undergraduate and graduate
levels. Courses to be taught will be adapted to the individual hired,
but could include introductory courses for majors, genetics,
epidemiology, host/pathogen science or more specialized courses in area
of expertise.
RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor, Tenure-track, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

POSITION: Assistant Professor (Environmental Microbial Ecology), beginning August, 2010
QUALIFICATIONS: The Department of Biology and the Center
for Reservoir and Aquatic Systems Research (CRASR) are pleased to
accept applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of
aquatic microbial ecology/microbiology. An interdisciplinary research
focus on the ecology of microorganisms and their relationship to the
environment and/or human health is strongly preferred. Candidates must
have an earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have a strong track
record in research and scholarship. The successful candidate will have
his/her tenure line in the Department of Biology but will also be
expected to contribute strongly to the interdisciplinary research
within CRASR. A strong record of publishing and the potential or record
