The Academic Excellence of Baylor Student-Athletes in the First Ten Years of the Big 12

In the Big 12 Conference's first decade, Baylor led the conference in student-athlete graduation rates five times and was second on three occasions.

Some Key Achievements:

• Baylor has led the Big 12 Conference in graduation rates for its football-playing student-athletes on five occasions.

• Baylor football has received seven American Football Coaches Association Academic Achievement Awards over the last 10 years for recording a graduation rate of 70 percent or better.

• 91 percent of Baylor student-athletes who complete their athletic eligibility graduate. In the first decade of the Big 12 Conference, 710 student-athletes received their Baylor degrees.

• Baylor has led the Big 12 every year in the NCAA four-year average student-athlete graduation rate with a record of 67 percent mark in 2005. This rate was well above the NCAA national average for Division 1 institutions of 62%.

• Baylor was the ONLY Big 12 institution to be above 60% student-athlete graduation rate in each of the conference's first 10 years and was also well above the NCAA national Division 1 average EVERY YEAR.

• A total of 642 student-athletes were selected to the Big 12 All-Academic teams since 1996-97, with 460 first-team selections.

• 3,131 student athletes have been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, with record 371 during 2005-06.

• Thirteen student-athletes received Big 12 Post-Graduate Scholarships.
