Baylor University Police Officers assist visitors at the Hurricane Rita
Relief Shelter at the Baylor Ferrell Center.

Part of the Finance and Administration Division, the Baylor University Police Department has a staff of approximately 30 persons, including approximately 24 police officers, 5 dispatchers, and an office manager. Collectively, the Police Department has more than 300 years of law enforcement experience.

All Baylor commissioned officers are licensed and certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education as meeting the minimum training requirements of the State of Texas for peace officers. They are official officers with the same authority as a municipal officer. To remain certified, Baylor officers must complete 40 hours of in-service training bi-annually, including multicultural diversity awareness.

Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Baylor Police Department responds to over 10,000 calls a year. The department operates five marked patrol vehicles on campus, a bicycle unit, and a Criminal Investigation Division.

The Baylor University Police Department will be the primary reporting and investigating law enforcement agency for all crimes occurring on the BU campus. The City of Waco Police Department will be the primary reporting and investigating law enforcement agency for all crimes occurring outside the boundaries of the BU campus. Both agencies will continue to provide mutual aid assistance as appropriate when requested.

The BUPD also makes reasonable efforts to obtain/exchange information from the local police departments and to gather annual statistics of reported crimes which occurred on the Baylor University property, reported crimes which occurred in the immediate surrounding public areas and reported directly to a specific local police agency.

The Baylor University Police Department main offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The offices are closed on campus holidays and weekends. The Police emeregency number is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays. If you are in need of Police assistance, call 254-710-2222 or 2222 from any campus telephone.
