'Flying Vikings' & Baylor AVS at Aurora Aviation to give kids unique flight opportunities

Oct. 21, 2009

On November 7th, at Aurora Aviation in McGregor, Texas, Paul Hansen and the Flying Vikings, along with students from Baylor's Aviation Science program will be giving children with chronic illnesses or disabilities from ages 6 to 18 the flight of their lives.

Paul Hansen and his Flying Vikings have been giving children the chance to fly for over a decade. Most have never been in a plane unless it has been to be transported for medical reasons. But once they are in the air, the pilot hands over the controls. On November 7th, they will be stopping in McGregor, Texas to give local children, who may never get the opportunities to fly or live normal lives, the chance to do something they will never forget - fly in an airplane!

While sponsors help to pay for the event, all of the pilots donate their time and aircraft. Each event offers a free pizza lunch and arts and crafts, along with the flight. Family members are allowed on the plane in the back seat to watch their child fly. It is a family event.
