Faculty Adjunct Teaching Aviation and Law at Baylor University

Since 1993, Ben has also enjoyed an adjunct faculty position teaching Aviation and the Law with Baylor University. Previously, he taught Real Estate law at McLennan Community College and San Jacinto Community College. Ben found that he was able to couple his passion for law with his love of flying through teaching. And, due to the travel distance between his Houston and Waco offices, Ben was even able to commute in his Cessna 182.

In December 2003, at the invitation of the director of the Aviation Sciences program at Baylor, Ben was pleased to speak at the “Aviation’s Environmental Impact Conference” at the University of Florence, in Florence, Italy. He held his esteemed audience captivated by his discussion concerning the question, “Will the US and EU approach, collide, or is a resolution achievable?” His topic was described in conference literature as “an analysis of accountability and an outlook from an aviation lawyer and pilot.”

The Importance of Community Service

In addition to practicing law and lecturing, Ben strongly believes in the importance of community service. He periodically accepts cases from the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, and NHH has partnered with J. Frank Dobie High School to participate in its Business Professionals of America program. Ben was also one of the founding Board members of the Texas Arrythmia Institute, and he is a member of the CPR-AED team for HARRA (Houston Area Road Runners Association) and volunteers at approximately 6 races each year.

In his free time, Ben has become an internationally-ranked marathoner and has been a locally-invited Elite Runner at the Houston Marathon since 2006. Shattering the times of 97% of all other local runners, Ben has already received an invitation to next year’s Houston Marathon! Ben loves multi-sports and has participated as a member on Team U.S.A. at the ITU World Championship - Duathlon five times. (Alpharetta, Georgia -- 2002; Alfertern, Switzerland -- 2003; Barcis, Italy -- 2005; and Cornerbrook, New Foundland, Canada -- 2006; and Rimini, Italy --2008) He loves to participate in triathlons as well.
