WACO, Texas (May 20, 2021) – Brian Raines, D.Phil, associate dean for research and strategic planning in the College of Arts & Sciences and professor of mathematics, was confirmed as a Faculty Regent by the Baylor University Board of Regents during its regular meeting on May 14, 2021. His three-year term will begin on June 1.

“I am deeply honored to be selected for this role, and I look forward to serving the University in this capacity for the next three years,” Dr. Raines said.

Raines earned a B.A. in mathematics and English from Hendrix College, and completed his D.Phil. degree from the University of Oxford. He became a member of the Baylor University mathematics faculty in 2002, and joined the Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office in 2017 as associate dean for undergraduate studies. In 2019, he became associate dean for research and strategic planning in Arts & Sciences, and also served as chair of Baylor’s Faculty Senate during the 2019-2020 academic year.

Two other members of the Arts & Sciences faculty have served as Faculty Regents: Lori Baker, Ph.D., professor of anthropology and vice provost for faculty development and diversity (2015-2017); and Sara Dolan, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology and neuroscience, who began serving a three-year term as Faculty Regent in 2020.

In its actions on May 14, the Board also approved Ally Perkins, a sophomore political science major in the College of Arts & Sciences, for a two-year term as Student Regent. Perkins will become a voting member of the Board during her second year of service.

Baylor Regents inaugurated the positions of Faculty and Student Regents in May 2012 to expand the number of faithful servant leaders and bring a wider range of perspective and expertise to the Board.
