What it's all about

The Department of Journalism, Public Relations and New Media educates writers, editors, photographers and public relations practitioners who shape and change the world through written and graphic communications. All students in the major are encouraged to write for a major publication within the university in order to build their portfolios and define their skills.

You might take classes such as:

• Beginning Reporting and Writing
• Editing
• Advanced Reporting
• Law and Ethics
• Public Relations
• Media Management
• Advertising Copywriting

Graduates of this major go on to:

• attend graduate school
• work in news positions for print and online publications
• work in public relations positions in PR agencies, businesses and governmental organizations
• write freelance
