Earth Science

What it's all about

A degree in Earth Science is made up of several different topics and is taught in a way that gives students an understanding of the Earth's materials and processes. The topics include astronomy, meteorology, oceanography and geology. However, this degree is not a professional degree in geology.

You might take classes such as:

  •  World Oceans
  •  Physical Geology
  •  Earth Science
  •  Earth Materials
  •  Rocks and Rock-forming Minerals

Graduates in this major often go on to:

  •  become teachers
  •  work for museums
  •  find jobs in environmental consulting firms
  •  work for oil or energy companies
  •  local, state, and federal agencies such as the U.S. Geological Survey, Environmental Protection Agency, Bureau of Land Management, Army Corps of Engineers, state water control boards and state geological surveys.
