Annual Dept. of Art Field Trip: Dallas Art Museums
Wednesday, September 25
The 30 participants in the 2013 annual field trip enjoyed lovely weather, time for lunch in the new Klyde Warren park adjacent to the museum campus, and satisfying explorations of Dallas' three adjacent art museums: The Nasher Sculpture Center, the Crow Collection of Asian Art, and the Dallas Museum of Art. Special exhibitions made for true highlights: Ai Wei Wei's Circle of Animals, recalling in splendid materials a now-lost Zodiac Fountain from an imperial Manchu palace; ceramic sculpture by 20th century masters at the Nasher; and The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece: Masterworks from the British Museum at the DMA. Prof Elkins helped us see the special qualities of these objects, underscoring what a special experience it is to visit our area's great museums TOGETHER. Chartered coach transportation provided by Allbritton Art Institute and snacks on the ride home made the day fun, comfortable, and easy.
