Bio

Dr. Edwards joined the Baylor Art Department faculty in 2004. As a faculty member of the Allbritton Art Institute, she teaches courses in 20th-century art, including American Art Since 1900, European and American Modernism, and Contemporary Art. She designs Allbritton Field Studies for study travel to museums and key sites to extend and enhance work in the classroom. On recent field studies she has taken students to Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C., and Marfa, Texas.

Dr. Edwards is from the Washington, D.C. area, home to many remarkable museums and galleries. After majoring in English literature in college, she worked as the research assistant for Mary Lynn Kotz's Rauschenberg: Art and Life (Harry N. Abrams, 1990; 2nd edition, 2004), which cemented her decision to pursue a graduate degree in Art History. She wrote her master's thesis on Rauschenberg's silkscreen paintings. Her dissertation (2006) focused on the mid-20th-century popular response to Jackson Pollock. She has lectured and written on Pollock, Chuck Close, Jessica Stockholder, Jamie Wyeth and Andrew Wyeth. Her essay on Jackson Pollock and Andrew Wyeth will be published in a collection of papers next year by University of California Press. Dr. Edwards also has been writing and lecturing on mid-20th-century Texas modernism, including an interview project for the Baylor Institute for Oral History and CASETA (Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art). Her book on Midcentury Modernism in Texas: 1935-1965, will be published by the University of Texas Press in Fall 2013.
