(Digital subscription required) Baylor alumnus and former Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane Jr., along with area pastors, are inviting worshipers from across the nation to Baylor's 45,000-seat McLane Stadium for “The Gathering on the Brazos,” a Palm Sunday worship and prayer service expected to attract thousands and intended to promote racial, socioeconomic and interdenominational healing. McLane, who gave a leadership gift for the $266 million stadium, said the idea came to him as he attended last fall's first game in the facility. "This being a religious university, it seemed we ought to do something with a great religious purpose," he said. Lead speaker will be Tony Evans, lead pastor of the 10,000-member Oak Cliff, and the event will feature Grammy Award winner Israel Houghton and an 860-member volunteer choir.
