Archaeology - Dig SiteArchaeologists at Baylor are involved in a variety of exciting research topics including:

  • The origins of tool use and hunting among our early ancestors in Africa.
  • The first appearance and spread of agricultural and pastoral economies in the Middle East.
  • The development of complex state-level societies in Eurasia and Mesoamerica.
  • The relationship between health, status and diet in Classic Maya polities.
  • Subsistence and life-ways in prehistoric Texas.
  • The historical archaeology society of Central Texas.

Some aspects of archaeology are best learned through hands on experience. Our students have many opportunities to participate in active research projects with faculty members. In fact, participation in fieldwork, either with Baylor faculty or through approved field projects sponsored by other universities, is a requirement of the BA degree in archaeology.
