Cadet ActivitiesThe Arnold Air Society (AAS) is a professional and service organization for Air Force ROTC cadets. It was chartered in 1947 at the University of Cincinnati. The Col. James Connally chapter at Baylor was chartered on Feb. 1, 1950. Its mission is to develop better officers through service and leadership opportunities. Opportunities also exist for members to exercise organizational and public relations skills. At Baylor, the Arnold Air Society hosts a flag vigil on Veterans Day, as well as an area-wide paintball tournament. It also organizes the Run For Hope, a 5K run throughout the Baylor campus that raises funds for leukemia research in memory of Lisa Burmeister. Lisa was a member who died suddenly from the disease on Jan. 3, 1993. You can learn more about this great organization, go to the Arnold Air Society web site.
Silver Wings Created in 1952, the Silver Wings society is a national, co-ed, professional organization. It is dedicated to raising awareness of national defense issues, and creating knowledgeable and effective civic leaders through education and community service events. Chapter activities and projects provide opportunities for community service and leadership training. Silver Wings supports the Air Force ROTC program at Baylor by hosting Cadet Appreciation Week, sending letters to cadets at field training, and providing refreshments at ROTC events.
Honor Guard The Honor Guard is a team of cadets that, among other duties, presents the American flag at military and civilian events. They participate in events throughout the school year that range from formal dinners to memorial services. One of the most visible representations of Air Force ROTC and the Honor Guard is presenting the American flag at Baylor athletic events.
Blue Knights
The Drill Team, known as the "Blue Knights," is a spirited team of cadets that drills rigorously throughout the year. They perform gravity-defying routines with rifles at recruiting events, as well as during ROTC functions. The Blue Knights compete nationally at drill competitions hosted throughout the nation.
Civil Air Patrol Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a civilian organization that shares a love for aviation and a desire to help their nation in time of need. Headquartered at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, the CAP program has its foundation in the military tradition that comes from being the auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. AFROTC cadets are offered free CAP membership. During CAP flights, cadets orient themselves to the basics of flight. CAP is a way for cadets experience flight, even if they will not be serving as pilots.
