How To Calculate Your Grade Point Average
Why do I want to know my GPA?
Your GPA is important for maintaining satisfactory student status at Baylor University. Certain programs have minimum GPA requirements for admittance. These programs include Business, Education, and Social Work. Your GPA is also valuable because it will affect any scholarships and/or financial assistance you may receive. If you are thinking of pursuing a graduate degree or admittance into a professional field (i.e.-law school, med school) your GPA is very important.
What if I want to know my current GPA?
There are several ways to figure out your GPA. The easiest way is to visit BearWeb and access your degree audit. Your cumulative and major GPA will already be calculated for you. If you want to calculate your own GPA and plan your grades for the semester, you can use the Baylor GPA calculator.
How do I use Baylor's GPA calculator to determine this semester's GPA?
Step 1Obtain a list of your current schedule courses(i.e.-PSY 1305, ENG 1302)
Step 2Look at the second digit of each course number. This will indicate the number of quality hours for that course.
Step 3When using the calculator, you will need to enter the number of quality hours for a course and the grade that you think you will receive for that course.
Step 4Once you have entered all of the quality hours and expected grade values for your courses, click on the COMPUTE button to the right of each row. This will calculate your course GPA.
Step 5You can then click on the COMPUTE button at the bottom of the GPA calculator. This will compute your expected GPA for the semester. Once you have done this, you may make changes to your expected grade values to compute other GPA options.
How do I compute my overall GPA at Baylor?Step 1In order to calculate your overall GPA at Baylor, you will need to obtain an updated copy of your transcript or degree audit. These can be picked up at the Records Office, 3rd floor of Robinson Tower or you can access these on-line through BearWeb.
Step 2You will then need to separate your completed courses at Baylor by letter grade. (Note: courses taken outside of Baylor do not count toward your cumulative GPA. Courses for which you received a Pass/Fail option, an Incomplete, or audit also will not count. If you have repeated a course, the most recent grade for that course will be the one that is calculated. A course for which you received an 'F' and have not repeated will also be calculated)
Step 3Once you have separated courses by grade, you will need to add the number of quality hours for each grade. The quality hours are determined by the second digit in the course number (i.e.-PSY 1305, ENG 1302, MIS 1305, and HIS 1307: Total number of quality hours=12).
Step 4On the GPA calculator, enter the total number of quality points and grade values for those points (i.e.-A 25, B 12, etc...)See bottom of page for letter grade values.
Step 5Click on the COMPUTE button to the right of every row. This will calculate the GPA for every letter grade.
Step 6Once you have computed each letter grade, click on the COMPUTE button at the bottom of the GPA calculator to view your cumulative Baylor GPA.
