Geophysics

Geophysics combines the study of geology with math and physics. The Geophysics major focuses on the advances in petroleum exploration and production. Students choose one of three concentrations: Environmental Geophysics, Earthquake Geophysics and Petroleum Exploration Geophysics. Available courses include:

  • Physical Geology
  • Geophysics
  • Earth Materials
  • Advanced Seismic Interpretation
  • Geophysical Exploration
The Baylor Geophysics program utilizes field and lab techniques to ensure thorough training. Students have access to advanced equipment like that used in professional fields of geophysicists. Graduates often continue their studies in graduate school.  Many graduates teach or work for various government agencies.  Others find positions in the oil and gas industry.
