The Spanish language is the fourth most prevalent language spoken globally and is the second most popular language in the United States. The Spanish major studies the language, culture, literature and history of various Hispanic nations. Available courses include:

  • Contemporary Spanish American Theatre
  • Spanish for Teachers
  • Hispanic Literature
  • Spanish Civilization
  • Spanish Drama of the Golden Age

Spanish is a useful asset to any field of study and as such, many students choose to pick up a Spanish minor or secondary major to support their first major. Because Spanish is such a widely-spoken language, occupations utilizing Spanish are not hard to find. Many students have gone on to complete graduate studies, teach or work in international affairs.

Though Study Abroad is not required, it is highly recommended for all foreign language and international majors. The Spanish program offers several study abroad opportunities, including summer, semester and exchange programs.

Baylor University also offers several Living-Learning Centers. These LLC's are housing opportunities designed to place students of common interests together in living and learning environments. Baylor offers a Global Community Living-Learning Center. Although available for all majors and classifications, the Global LLC is ideal for students majoring in a foreign language and wishing to put their skill into practice.
