Theatre Design and Technology

The Theatre Design and Technology major is targeted toward students who wish to pursue careers in set design, costume design, lighting design, or technical design. Students work closely with the Theatre Arts production crews and are able to select a focus within the design categories and build their portfolio throughout their time at Baylor. Courses available include:

  • Lighting Design
  • Stage Management
  • Scene Painting
  • Costume History
  • Theatrical Drawing

The department produces about 8 full productions each year, including summer plays directed by graduate students. The productions vary, anything from Shakespeare to musicals. All productions are performed in full by theatre students and the majority of sets and scenery are also created by the students. This hands-on experience develops the participants' skill and experience.

The Theatre Department also offers a summer study abroad program every other year in which students travel to different countries in order to experience theatre in different cultures. Some alumni have gone on to complete graduate school while others have gone on to work in the entertainment industry immediately following the completion of their undergraduate degree.

Theatre Design and Technology students have the opportunity to live at the Fine Arts Living-Learning Center in North Village, along with other Fine Arts students. Living-Learning Centers are residence halls where students of common academic or extracurricular students live together.
