The Department of Journalism, Public Relations and New Media educates students in writing, editing, photographing and public relations for written and graphic communication. Within the Journalism department, there are three tracks, or sequences, available. Though each sequence maintains the same required Journalism Core, each program highlights different areas within the field of journalism. The News Editorial track focuses on developing reporting, writing and editing skills. The Public Relations track focuses on the study of strategic communication that builds relationships between and organization and its publics. The New Media track focuses on journalism through the ever-changing social media. There is also a Business Journalism major offered through the Business School. Available Journalism courses include:

  • Editing
  • Public Relations
  • Writing and Editing for Online Media
  • Writing for Media Markets
  • Reporting and Writing for Media

The students in the Journalism department create a newsletter and magazine each year highlighting news for the University. Students are also actively involved with the University newspaper, the Baylor Lariat. Students are encouraged to participate in all of the University publications to develop their skill and build their portfolio.

The Journalism department also offers study abroad programs for its students including Baylor in London and Baylor in New York.
