Physics

The Physics major is the study of matter, energy, force and motion and the way in which they relate to one another. Available courses include:

  • Light, Vision and Optics
  • Sound and Acoustics
  • History of Invention and Technology
  • Classical Mechanics
  • Statistical and Thermal Physics

Students can pursue either a BS or BA in Physics. The Bachelor of Science in Physics prepares students for graduate studies or careers in technology, medicine, education, law, finance, industry, and other professions.

Within the BS degree, students have the option to select a concentration in either Computational Physics or Pre-Health Care (but a concentration is not required). The Computational Physics Concentration emphasizes interdisciplinary coursework in physics and computer science, and it is geared toward students with an interest in computational physics. The Pre-Health Care Concentration is specially designed for students with an interest in medicine, dentistry, or other health related professions, and it satisfies the medical/dental pre-professional program requirements.

The Bachelor of Arts in Physics provides a traditional liberal arts education with a solid set of core courses in physics. Physics is also offered as a secondary major or minor for students who are pursuing a different field of study.

All majors and minors are strongly encouraged to attend Physics Colloquium and become involved in undergraduate research.
