We are excited by your interest in theatre!

The Department of Theatre Arts at Baylor is a dynamic and intensive program with academically and professionally engaged professors, an active production season, and a busy schedule of workshops, guest artists, and special events. We hope that you will want to be a part of the work we do.

For a full description of the department, be sure to check out the About Us page on this website. You may also want to look at the specific degree progams offered by our Undergraduate Program and our Graduate Program. Here you will find information about graduate and undergraduate offerings.

In order to maintain small classes and plentiful opportunities, we accept a limited number of theatre arts majors and graduate students through an audition/interview process. Please note that students who desire a focus in nonperformance areas (design, stage management, etc.) should bring a portfolio of their work to the interview.

Graduate Student Postmodern Scene with Undergraduate Actors Compared to other schools, our department is medium-sized (approximately 125 majors). This means that you will have enough competition among other students to "keep you on your toes" while still receiving the individual attention you will need to hone your craft. We maintain a professional yet nurturing environment, with mentored opportunities as an undergraduate to practice your expertise in performance and design for a mainstage audience in exceptional, state-of-the-art theatre facilities.

Whether a student wishes to pursue a career as a professional actor, director or designer, the administrator of a non-profit regional theatre, a drama teacher at the secondary level, or even the leader of a drama ministry, the Department of Theatre Arts at Baylor will help you develop the professional and life skills to succeed.

Matt scene painting. Baylor Theatre alumni are placed in prominent positions throughout the theatre community in the US. Some of our students have gone on to prestigious graduate programs such as Harvard, CalArts, and Stony Brook University. Some alumni have received scholarships to enter acting conservatories such as the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre in New York, the Old Globe in San Diego, or the Royal Academy of Drama Arts in London. Other graduates decide to strike out immediately, seeking careers in New York, L.A. or the regional theatre circuit. Still other graduates choose to use their theatrical training in the worlds of ministry, business or law.

If you would like to visit Baylor during the school year, let us know and we will arrange a tour of our facilities and time with a faculty member. If you visit during the run of one of our shows, we will be happy for you and your parents to be our guests. There are several other opportunities to get a more in-depth feel for our department. These events include university-scheduled recruitment events such as "Premiere" weekends and departmentally-sponsored audition dates for our Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees.
