Science
Leadership Spring 2001 Course
Biology 4333
Sponsored by a grant from the 3M Foundation
In preparation for working with seventh grade students, we researched adolescent development, pedagogy, and some of the basic biology that we would need to use in our projects. We divided ourselves into two groups of four. With the help of Becky Cassell from Region XII of the Texas Education Association, we established contacts with teachers at two different middle schools. One group worked with Holly Harris at China Spring Middle School, and the other worked with Melissa Rhoden and Janice Johnson at Midway Middle School. The groups worked with the teachers to determine the appropriate subject matter to supplement the current curriculum. For the China Spring group, the topics were evenly dispersed in the field of human anatomy and physiology. For the Midway group, the topic chosen was respiration which was integrated with life style choices and the environment.
