Educational Psychology
The Department of Educational Psychology (EDP) offers a wide array of exciting opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. At the graduate level, we offer a Ph.D. degree-program in Educational Psychology, an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree-program in School Psychology, as well Master's degree in Educational Psychology and Gifted and Talented. For undergraduates, the EDP offers teacher-certification programs in Special Education and Gifted & Talented.
The Ph.D. program affords graduate students the opportunity to develop a research plan from a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspective while emphasizing the important processes of learning, development, and assessment. Graduates of this program have accomplished much, ranging from having several book authors, to acquiring faculty positions at leading universities including Louisiana State University, the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, Texas Tech University, and the University of Minnesota Medical School.
The School Psychology Program offers students the opportunity to use the science-practitioner model in order to work with school-age children who have special needs as well as with their parents, teachers, and administrators. This program is currently conditionally approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Recent graduates are employed in a variety of school districts around the state of Texas, ranging from Dallas to Waco to Houston as well as in Colorado and Kentucky.
The teacher-certification programs in Special Education and Gifted & Talented have produced high quality teachers for many school districts in Texas as well as other states in the U.S. Several recent graduates from these programs have earned the respect of their peers by being selected as teacher-of-the-year awards at their schools.
I hope you take the time to check the program web-links and learn more about the vibrant programs in our department.
