Renumbered Physics Courses for Undergraduate Students

Answers to Common Questions

Beginning in Fall 2007, five courses offered by the Department of Physics will have new course numbers.

  • PHY 1422 - General Physics I-A will no longer be offered.

  • The new course is PHY 1420 - General Physics I.

    If PHY 1422 is required for your degree program, PHY 1420 may be taken as a substitute. PHY 1420 will fulfill any requirements for PHY 1422 in the degree audit. Students who have completed PHY 1422 by Summer 2007 do not need to take PHY 1420.

    • PHY 1425 - General Physics I will no longer be offered.

    The new course is PHY 1420 - General Physics I.

    If PHY 1425 is required for your degree program, PHY 1420 may be taken as a substitute. PHY 1420 will fulfill any requirements for PHY 1425 in the degree audit. Students who have completed PHY 1425 by Summer 2007 do not need to take PHY 1420.

    • PHY 2435 - General Physics II will no longer be offered.

    The new course is PHY 1430 - General Physics II.

    If PHY 2435 is required for your degree program, PHY 1430 may be taken as a substitute. PHY 1430 will fulfill any requirements for PHY 2435 in the degree audit. Students who have completed PHY 2435 by Summer 2007 do not need to take PHY 1430.

    • PHY 2340 - General Physics III will no longer be offered.

    The new course is PHY 2360 - Mathematical and Computational Physics.

    If PHY 2340 is required for your degree program, PHY 2360 may be taken as a substitute. PHY 2360 will fulfill any requirements for PHY 2340 in the degree audit. Students who have completed PHY 2340 by Spring 2007 do not need to take PHY 2360.

    • PHY 2370 - Modern Physics will no longer be offered.

    The new course is PHY 2350 - Modern Physics.

    If PHY 2370 is required for your degree program, PHY 2350 may be taken as a substitute. PHY 2350 will fulfill any requirements for PHY 2370 in the degree audit. Students who have completed PHY 2370 by Spring 2007 do not need to take PHY 2350.
