The Baylor University School of Music is proud to offer the Master of Music (MM) in Band Conducting through the University Band Program. Graduates of the graduate conducting program hold substantial posts at all educational levels from middle school through collegiate band programs. The graduate program in conducting is designed to prepare students for a career of professional conducting in the wind band medium-be it on the public school, university, or professional level.

It is preferred that applicants to the wind conducting program have several years of teaching experience prior to submitting their application for study. However, in exceptional cases, consideration will be given to recent graduates of bachelor's degree programs.

Application Process:

  • Apply to the University by completing the process online. The application fee must be paid before your application can be considered.

  • Submit transcripts of undergraduate work and 3 letters of recommendation to the Graduate School.

  • To begin an internal dialogue regarding graduate programs in music, contact Dr. Laurel Zeiss, Director of the Graduate Division in theSchool of Music.

  • Submit a complete resume to Dr. Zeiss.

  • Submit a conducting videotape/DVD of both a recent rehearsal andperformance (20-30 minutes will suffice). Video footage from the ensemble's perspective is preferred. Video media should be sent to Dr. Zeiss prior to January 30. Early submission of materials is encouraged.

  • If a teaching assistantship is desired, complete and submit the Application for Graduate Assistantship.

  • After materials have been submitted and reviewed, finalists may beinvited to campus for additional interviews and auditions. These invitations are usually extended by February 15 or soon thereafter.

  • Any available teaching assistantship positions will be offered inwriting around April 15 (or before, if possible).
