Open Position: Assistant Director of Bands

Position: Lecturer in Ensembles / Assistant Director of Bands

Appointment date: June 1, 2017



–Serve as Associate Director of Athletic Bands, which includes:1) Direct the Courtside Players (home basketball / volleyball games, as well as Big 12 and NCAA tournaments), and 2) Serve as assistant to the Director of the Golden Wave Marching Band

–Conduct the Concert Band

–Teach Beginning Conducting and possibly additional courses, according to qualifications and departmental needs

–Perform other administrative duties, as assigned by the Director of Bands & Associate Director of Bands



–Master’s degree required; doctorate or work toward the doctorate preferred

–Successful experience with athletics bands

–Technical and artistic competence as a conductor

–Demonstrable administrative and organizational experience

–Ability to assist in recruitment and retention process

–Drill writing and/or arranging skills desired

–Teaching experience in public schools desired


Rank and Salary:

–Appointment at the rank of Lecturer with the possibility of a continuing appointment with the recommendation of the search committee and the approval of the dean

–Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications
