Teen Volunteers

The Mayborn Museum encourages youth who have completed the 9th grade to apply to volunteer. We are a fun place to learn more about the museum, meet other teens and interact with the public.

To apply to be a volunteer, you must fill out our online application.

Your job is to enhance the visitor experience of the museum by aiding them with our hands-on exhibits or telling them interesting facts not available on the graphics. During our orientation process, you can see what areas of the museum appeal to you learn about all areas of the museum.

You will be required to complete a training session before volunteering at the museum.Please fill out your online application and contact us to schedule a training at (254)710-1128.

Ways You Can Help

Teen Volunteer Opportunities:
Summer Guides:
These volunteers guide small summer tour groups of children and their leaders throughout the museum. Summer Guides see to it that the groups experience all aspects of the museum in their limited amount of time. This is an "as needed" assignment.

  • Must enjoy working with children.
  • Able to walk for two or more hours.
  • Good communicator.
  • Friendly and personable.
  • Able to speak to small groups.
  • Must be flexible.
  • Must be knowledgeable of all areas of the museum.
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Must be reliable.
  • Responsible.
  • Polite.

Special Activity Days:
Throughout the year, the museum plans special days for its visitors. Many of these days include activities. Teen volunteers are called upon to help with these activities. These are "as needed" assignments and do not occur on a regular basis.

  • Willing to help.
  • Flexible.
  • Polite.
  • Friendly and personable.
  • Must be dependable.
  • Willing to take direction.
  • Not afraid to ask questions and seek help.
